Index Ventures Overview

Index Ventures is arguably the most successful venture firm to emerge from Europe. Founded in Geneva in 1996 by Neil Rimer, David Rimer, and Giuseppe Zocco, the firm has spent three decades building a genuinely transatlantic operation. In 2021 the firm raised $3.1B across new funds: $900M for early stage, $2B for growth, and $200M for a dedicated seed fund. A second seed fund of $300M followed in 2022.

The track record is exceptional. 108 portfolio companies have reached $1B+ valuations. 23 have surpassed $10B. 57 have gone public. A $2M investment in Figma became a $2.2B position at IPO.

The firm is in a succession phase. Bloomberg reported in early 2026 that Danny Rimer, at 55, is beginning to plan for retirement. The next generation of partners — Hannah Seal, Martin Mignot, Shardul Shah, and Nina Achadjian — are increasingly prominent.

Index Ventures Interview Process

Index runs a multi-round process that tests both analytical ability and founder empathy. Early rounds explore your background and motivations. The case study round involves evaluating a company and presenting an investment thesis — but Index places as much weight on how you think about the founding team and market timing as on the financial analysis.

Expect to be asked about founders you admire, companies you would have invested in early, and how you would support a portfolio company facing a specific challenge.

Index Ventures Careers

Index has a team of 68 including 33 partners across London, San Francisco, and New York. The firm hires Principals and Associates on both sides of the Atlantic. Candidates should be clear about which office and which stage focus — seed, venture, or growth — they are targeting.
