Balderton Capital Overview
Balderton Capital is Europe's leading venture firm investing exclusively in European-founded technology companies. The firm started as Benchmark Capital Europe before becoming fully independent in 2007. In 2024 Balderton raised $1.3B across its Early Stage IX ($600M) and Growth Fund II ($680M) — at the time the largest European VC fundraise.
Balderton invests from seed through growth with a clear focus on European founders building global businesses. The team has deep strength across fintech, cybersecurity, AI, and climate tech. Unlike many European VCs that have expanded to the US, Balderton has remained deliberately focused on Europe. The firm's thesis is that European technical talent is world-class and underpriced relative to Silicon Valley.

Balderton Capital Interview Process
Balderton runs a structured recruiting process. The typical flow involves a screening call, one or two fit interviews with associates or principals, and a case study round with a senior partner.
The case study is the defining moment. Balderton typically asks you to evaluate a European tech company — expect to size the market, assess competitive dynamics, and make a clear investment recommendation. You do not need to build a full financial model, but you do need numbers behind your reasoning. How big is the TAM? What is the realistic penetration? What would this company need to be worth in five years for the investment to return the fund?
Partners will push back on your assumptions. The point is not to be right — it is to show that you can think clearly under pressure and adjust your view when presented with new information.
Balderton Capital Careers
Balderton hires across two distinct tracks. Investment roles come at Analyst and Associate level, skewing toward ex-investment bankers, MBA graduates, and ex-entrepreneurs. The firm values candidates who combine sharp financial analysis with genuine curiosity about technology and founders.
Balderton Springboard is a separate early-stage programme for founders — not a hiring track into the fund. Do not confuse the two when applying.
Engaging with Balderton's published research — particularly the annual Balderton 50 — is a credible way to start a conversation. The firm publishes thoughtful content and values candidates who engage with it seriously.
